Oscar Sheppard is a veteran, professional singer. Singing since early childhood, he was greatly influenced by such greats as Nat King Cole, Lou Rawls, Sam Cook, Johnny Hartman, and Frank Sinatra.
Oscar was bitten by the singing bug when he was only eight years old. Since then he has performed on shows with famous and diverse groups such as The Manhattans, Roy Ayers, and Linda Hopkins The Parliament Funkadelic , Solomon Burke and the incomparable Jimmy Smith to mention a few.
His sound is described by many as smooth, soothing, mellow, relaxing, soulful, and easy listening reminiscent of Johnny Hartman, Nat ‘King ‘ Cole and Gregory Porter. He especially loves to sing ballads. When he sings them, they tend to command attention from his audiences. It has been said that whenever couples hear him, they fall in love all over again.
Among his many musical accomplishments, Oscar Sheppard has been nominated for an Emmy Award by The National Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences as a composer for the Nationally acclaimed documentary ‘ Sweet Auburn’ (CBS)which included the Great Ray Charles and Little Richard. Oscar was also named a finalist in the Jazz vocalist category on Black Entertainment Television’s (BET) Jazz Discovery after winning a record eight weeks in a row and was subsequently featured on ‘Jazz Showcase’ which was aired internationally.
Recently, Oscar completed production of his highly anticipated Smooth Jazz EP(Extended Play CD), entitled , Just sayin’ , a collection of self penned songs with a modern/contemporary flair and catchy themes as well as still enjoying international airplay and downloads from his debut CD entitled Kiddio , a collection of traditional jazz songs mixed with originals.
Performing for audiences in venues from night clubs to festivals and concert halls, Oscar’s rich baritone and lush stylings embrace lyrics and melodies in such a way that it’s easy to see why he is called “ The Smooth One”
